Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of six months of self-applied 2.6% hydrogen peroxide containing tooth-whitening strips.
Methods: Among eighty five clinical trial participants experiencing initial whitening of six months ago, fifty subjects agreed to purpose of this study. The tooth brightness¢¥ of experimental(26 persons) and placebo control groups(24 persons) were measured with VITAPAN classical(Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany) under the same condition of six months ago. The efficacy was evaluated by comparing the brightness of tooth surface at baseline, l5days and six months. Also, rate of subjects whose brightness of teeth enhanced and rate of subjects who recognized their teeth whitened were analyzed respectively.
Results: The pattern of brightness changes between the experimental¢¥, and placebo group was different. The experimental group at 15days and six months experienced a highly significant improvement in brightness of teeth color relative to baseline(P < .01). Rate of subjects whose brightness of teeth color enhanced and rate of subjects who recognized their teeth whitened were significantly higher in experimental group(P < .05).
Conclusion The. whitening strips with 2.6% hydrogen peroxide used for 2 weeks has been proposed as a useful self-whitening because of the efficacy maintenance for six months.
